Given the lab's reliance on field-based research, one permanent focus of our collective efforts will be equity and safety in fieldwork. Beginning in Fall 2023, we make the following specific commitments:
- All lab members will, within their first year, complete the Building a Better Fieldwork Future workshop. Additionally, the lab commits to hosting the workshop at least twice annually (and upon request, as able) for other groups doing field research; at present, requests for this training should be directed to Tyler.
- The lab maintains a fieldwork manual and worksheet to increase members' awareness of and preparedness for fieldwork-related safety issues, particularly those that might affect identities other than their own. Part of this commitment involves discussing and addressing safety concerns prior to all field trips.
